Within just days of its release, the episode shot to the top, garnering more than 20,000 votes and surpassing fan-favorite installments like ‘Dear Billy’ and ‘The Massacre at Hawkins Lab’. Viewers have already tagged it as the best episode in the series’ 8-year stretch, praising its pacing, emotional weight, and a shocking twist in the second half. The Duffers who wrote and directed this chapter have crafted it as the season’s explosive centerpiece, which is evident in every frame.

But what exactly made Episode 4 a whole different phenomenon? Firstly, the episode unveils major secrets that have been building since the beginning of episode 4. ‘Eleven’s mission to save ‘Hopper’ turns into something far stranger when she finds ‘Dr. Kay’ (a new government antagonist) operating a secret base inside the Upside Down.
