Former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Erin Boag has revealed her son’s horror accident when he severed his finger in a door.
11-year-old Ewan was rushed to the hospital after the incident, which happened while playing with friends two weeks ago. Erin, who appeared on Strictly for eight years and left in 2012, spoke of the accident on her Instagram.
Dressed in a pink t-shirt and baseball cap, the 50-year-old dancer told of her experience in a video praising NHS staff. She said: “My son Ewan, who’s 11 years old, severed his finger in a door playing with friends – middle finger, left hand. And when I when I say severed, I mean severed. Flesh, bone, fingernail – the whole lot. It was a quick dash to Kingston hospital A and E.”

Luckily medics were able to save his finger with plastic surgery. She continued: “We were referred to St. George’s in London, the paediatrics there in the special department where they do plastic surgery, where they did an operation on Ewan and saved his finger and bandaged it up.”
Erin was grateful for to the staff who helped her son, who she shares with husband Peter O’ Dowd. “Thank you to all the staff there that we dealt with, you know, from reception to nurses to doctors to the plastic surgeons,” she said.
Unsurprisingly, the comments box on Erin’s post was flooded with well-wishes from her followers. One said: “Omg Erin I’m so sorry to hear this happened to Ewan. What a shock for you all. I hope he heels quickly. Sending love to all xx”
Another added: “Oh my goodness what a trauma for you all especially Ewan. So glad for the positive outcome.” A third said: “Oh that sounds very scary, even though I think of you as a very calm and relaxed person. Well done to the NHS, wishing Ewan a swift recovery to 100%.”
Erin was a fan-favourite on Strictly and in her tenure danced with celebs such as Colin Jackson, Richard Arnold and Julian Clary. Outside of the show, the New Zealand born star was professionally partnered with Anton Du Beke, who is now a judge on the BBC programme. Anton is Ewan’s godfather and she is his daughter Henrietta’s godmother.
Speaking to Hello, Erin previously said: “He’s a very good godfather, Uncle Anton. It’s nice because the children are really good friends.”
