The Strictly Come Dancing star has been open about her battle against several health issues, including breast cancer, after which she had a mastectomy in 2023 and another in 2025

Amy Dowden has said she’s feeling “grateful” as she posed in a gorgeous swimsuit just months after undergoing a mastectomy. The Strictly Come Dancing star has been battling a series of health issues for years.

Posting the story to Instagram on Thursday (19 February), Amy stunned in a blue and brown belted swimsuit, which she paired with a sun hat as she enjoyed the sunshine at the Blue Marlin Beach Club in Ibiza, which she had gone to to celebrate the birthday of her sister-in-law, Paula Jones.

In the caption, she wrote: “In my swimsuit era, giving it to you from all angles . Beach Club vibes to celebrate @pollypj birthday. #swimsuit #holidays #beachclub #minibreak #grateful”

She posted another picture with her husband, Ben Jones, who she married in 2022. The two, who also danced together, were snapped kissing with the ocean visible behind them. In the caption of that post, Amy wrote: “Always you babe.”

Amy has struggled with a series of health battles for her entire life. She was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when she was a child and won a BAFTA Cymru award for a documentary she did with the BBC about how the condition affects her life. She also received an MBE years later for raising awareness for inflammatory bowel diseases.

In May 2023, she announced that she had been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and subsequently had a mastectomy. That year, she had to sit out Strictly’s season while she had chemotherapy, especially as she had not only developed sepsis following the first round, but also broke her foot. Another side effect of cancer she suffered was a blood clot on one of her lungs.

Thankfully, in February 2024, she was able to tell fans that recent tests had shown no sign of cancer, though she would have to wait five years before getting a complete “all clear”. However, fans continued to worry for the star when in October 2024, she was rushed to hospital after collapsing following a dance with partner JB Gill. Amy withdrew from the competition citing a foot injury and Lauren Oakley took over with JB.

A year later, Amy underwent another surgery. Though she clarified that her surgery was not prompted by another cancer diagnosis, she did have another mastectomy in November 2025.

Amy later provided a candid update on her cancer journey live on Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4. The professional dancer appeared live on the show as she shared her heartbreak about motherhood.

The Strictly Come Dancing star said: “A cancer diagnosis changes you forever… I’ve been put into menopause… I don’t know if I’ll ever have the honour of becoming a mum which I desperately want to… Five weeks ago I have another mastectomy…

“I’m so grateful for another shot of live, to be able get back on the dance floor… I’m so grateful for my medical team, the doctors and nurses who have kept me alive. A cancer diagnosis changes you forever, I’m no longer the person I was and that’s not by choice.”
