Strictly Come Dancing’s Nadiya Bychkova has said “it’s difficult to date” after splitting from her co-star. The Ukrainian, 36, broke up with fellow pro dancer Kai Widdrington, 30, in 2024 after two years together.

Talking about having relationships in the public eye, Nadiya told The Mirror: “In general, nowadays it’s difficult to date, and it takes time to get to know a person.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re on TV or not, whether it’s a friendship, a business partner or a relationship or whatever it may be, I’m just taking things slow.”

She has ruled out dating apps, saying: “I don’t think they are for me. I prefer conversation, and meeting someone authentically in real life. I don’t think I would be able to judge a person by a photo – it can be misleading.”

The star has a nine-year-old daughter called Mila with her former fiancé, Slovenian footballer Matija Škarabot, and she is following in her footsteps as a dancer. Nadiya said she would “absolutely” like to have more children “if the stars align”.

Nadiya hinted things were frosty between her and Kai, who has since moved on with girlfriend Chloe Wells. Speaking in 2024 she said: “We work together but we are not friends and that’s OK. One thing I can tell you is that when you see me dancing with him it will be amazing because I’m a professional.”

The star has had seven Strictly dance partners and was memorably paired with news presenter Dan Walker and made it to the quarter finals together.

Last series she wasn’t so lucky with rugby player Chris Robshaw, getting eliminated third – behind TV star Tom Skinner and Ross King – and missing out on the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

She said: “Chris [Robshaw] and I were out quite early this season, so I didn’t get to go on tour with him, but at the same time, it’s nice to take some time off, and not be on the road.”

Nadiya added: “Everybody wants to win the glitter ball. We all want to take the celebrity we’ve been given for the whole journey and teach them as many dances as we can, but someone has to go early unfortunately.”

However, she does have a dream dance partner – but doesn’t think even the show’s bookers will be able to land him.

She explained: “Princess Anne told me she is a big fan of the show, so maybe Prince William… I don’t think so but that’s OK. He is the future King.”

Meanwhile, host Claudia Winkleman has opened up about the real reason she left Strictly. She explained to the Daily Mail: “The show deserves new. We wanted to leave when we were on an absolute high.”

While the connection on-screen between Claudia and her co-host Tess Daly appeared solid, it seems their friendship is just as strong away from the cameras.

So much so they have planned to meet up and spend the weekend together to watch the first episode of this year’s series together. She went on to say: “Tess and I are spending the weekend together and watching the first one. It’s diarised.”
