New Delhi: The league stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025, India’s premier domestic T20 tournament, wrapped up on Monday, December 8, with eight teams moving on to the Super League stage. Only the top two teams from each group progressed, resulting in the exit of several key teams. Krunal Pandya’s Baroda ended third in Group C, while Maharashtra missed out on qualification narrowly, falling short to Madhya Pradesh on net run rate.

Jharkhand stood out as the top team, as they won all seven of their matches and finished the Elite stage as the only unbeaten team, whereas Mumbai won six out of their seven games.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to make his T20 comeback

Star India cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to return for the Super League games. With Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan in impressive form, the defending champions appear stronger than ever. On the other hand, established teams like Delhi, Karnataka, Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat failed to qualify for the Super League.

Under the new format, rather than the traditional knockout rounds, the eight qualifying teams are divided into two groups of four. Each team will play three Super League matches in Pune, with the winners of each group facing off in the final which is scheduled for December 18.
