Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet will meet on November 15 to take key decisions on local body elections, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Bill, 2025, and the Rythu Bharosa scheme for the ongoing rabi season.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the State Secretariat gains political importance as it comes a day after the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll results on November 14.
Originally scheduled for November 7, the Cabinet meeting was postponed first to November 12 and now to November 15. According to official sources, the rescheduling allows the government to take up politically sensitive issues in light of the bypoll outcome. The Congress leadership, confident of winning the seat, is preparing to announce major administrative and welfare initiatives soon after.
The issue of local body elections is expected to dominate the meeting. On November 3, the Telangana High Court directed the government to announce the election schedule by November 24. With the deadline approaching, the Cabinet will likely finalise its stance on reservation quotas and poll dates.
The government is expected to limit total reservations to 50 per cent to comply with constitutional norms. While Backward Class (BC) organisations and opposition parties are demanding a 42 per cent quota, the Congress government is leaning toward ensuring BC representation through party nominations rather than statutory reservation.
Once the Cabinet finalises its decision, the panchayat raj department will prepare the final reservation lists through district collectors and send them to the State Election Commission, which is ready to issue the poll schedule. Elections for MPTCs, ZPTCs, and sarpanches are likely in December, possibly overlapping with the ‘Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu’, a state-wide celebration in the first week of December to mark two years of Congress rule.
The Cabinet is also expected to approve the gig workers’ welfare bill, discuss setting up a third power distribution company, clear pending financial releases, and review departmental performance. Another major agenda item is the disbursement of Rythu Bharosa assistance of Rs 6,000 per acre for the rabi season, following the successful distribution of Rs 9,000 crore to more than 70 lakh farmers during the kharif season in June.
