Bruce Campbell, known for his role as Ash Williams in The Evil Dead horror series and low-cult budget movies, says he is remains positive despite the health bombshell
The Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell has issued a heartwrenching update after being diagnosed with cancer.
The 67-year-old star, who plays Ash Williams in The Evil Dead horror film series, did not disclose which cancer with which he has been diagnosed but admitted it is not curable. Bruce, who was also in Black Friday in 2021, said the illness is “treatable” and expressed hope, insisting he is “a tough old son-of-a-bitch”.
The father of two gave fans an update, writing on Instagram: “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that — I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologise if that’s a shock — it was to me too.
“The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change — appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.”

Bruce, from Royal Oak, Michigan, has already filmed Evil Dead Burn, the latest in The Evil Dead series. This is due for release later this year, Warner Bros. Pictures says.
Referring to his schedule, Bruce’s Instagram message continued: “My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie & Emma this fall. There are several cons this year summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.
“That’s about it. I’m not trying to enlist sympathy — or advice — I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will). Fear not, I am a tough son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around or a while. As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”
Bruce stars in and directs Ernie & Emma, a comedy film about a salesman who goes on a roadtrip across the country with his late wife’s ashes. A trailer for the film was released on YouTube last month.
The entertainer’s last TV credit was last year in Invincible, an American adult animated superhero television series. He was also in the horror-thriller series Hysteria! in 2024 but this was cancelled after just one series on subscription series Peacock.
Bruce’s diagnosis follows the bombshell news BBC star Finnian Garbutt, who is in Hope Street, has skin cancer. After finding a lump behind his ear four years ago, which he initially thought was an ingrown hair, Finnian was alarmed when his barber told him the lump had grown substantially before receiving his devastating diagnosis.
