The major public transportation strikes that swept Hamburg and Frankfurt and some surrounding regions are over now, but regional actions are still taking place in some smaller municipalities in the states of Bavaria and Hesse.
According to the Verdi trade union, cities in eastern Bavaria, including Regensburg, Passau and Landshut were affected by public transportation strikes on Friday.
In those cities transport employees who are union members had been called to a full-day walkout, and significant cancellations in bus traffic were expected.
The same applies in parts of Hesse, including in the state capital of Wiesbaden. There almost all buses remained parked in their depots.
Drivers in the Hamburg area should be aware of additional traffic expected at the weekend. Due to a warning strike in the traffic operations centre for the Elbe Tunnel, and a full closure of the A7 starting Friday evening. Police therefore expect significant traffic disruptions.

Verdi is currently negotiating new collective agreements for public transport in all federal states, and is demanding a seven percent pay rise – or at least €300 extra per month – for employees across a number of sectors including in public transportation and for around 14,000 employees at Autobahn GmbH.
Intermittent local warning strikes in transportation and other sectors can be expected to continue until deals with employers are agreed.
