The rapid timetable for an A.J. Brown trade — with Eagles’ trade price becoming clear

If the Eagles want to ship off A.J. Brown, they need to do it soon.

Soon means by March 9, when the legal tampering period opens, per a report by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

But the price will be steep for the star wide receiver. An NFL executive told the outlet the Eagles were looking for a first- and second-round pick in return. Philadelphia currently has eight picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, so it could opt for a 2027 first, too.

If a team trades for Brown, it will also have to take on the three-year, $92 million extension he signed two offseasons ago.

However, if Eagles general manager Howie Roseman doesn’t receive enough draft compensation, Brown will likely stay in Philly.

Despite the trade rumors surrounding Brown, Roseman and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni have maintained that they want to keep Brown for 2026.

“It’s really hard to find great players,” Roseman said last week. “I think A.J. is a great player. I think that, from my perspective, we’re looking to improve in all areas, and you don’t do that by subtracting.”

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the possibility of trading for Brown, his former player with the Titans, at the NFL combine Wednesday. Vrabel skirted around the question — smartly avoiding any tampering claims — but said that he and Brown have maintained a strong relationship.

“I think that we’ll look at everything that we can possibly look at to add to our roster,” Vrabel said. “There’s a lot of back-and-forth. Taking on compensation. And so, I’m sure there’ll be a lot of opportunities for us to talk about trades, not only this week, but as we prepare and get closer to the draft.

“I watched him grow. I watched him mature. I’m proud of him, proud of the father that he is. I’m proud of the husband. And that has nothing to do with where he plays or where he played.”

Trade rumors around Brown began swirling at last season’s trade deadline. However, Roseman made it clear that they weren’t moving him despite his unhappiness with the team.

Now, per ESPN’s Peter Schrager, that tone is different, despite Roseman’s comments at the combine.

“A lot of conversations are had in hallways and bars and in restaurants, and I’ll tell you this,” Schrager said on “Get Up” Thursday. “There is a difference in tone from the trade deadline when Howie Roseman said to everybody, ‘Absolutely off the table, we’re not trading A.J. Brown.’”

Amid controversy behind the scenes, Brown turned in his fourth straight 1,000 yard season in 2025. It was the second-lowest total of his career, racking up seven games with under 50 receiving yards, but he showed he’s still got it.

The Eagles, though, fell in the Wild Card round of the playoffs to the 49ers, possibly Brown’s last game with Philadelphia if these new developments are true.
