Target Layoffs 2025 Explained: Amid the layoff spree, another United States-based company has announced a layoff, marking its first major round of layoffs in a decade. The Minneapolis-based company, Target, has announced that it is planning to cut a total of 1,800 corporate jobs as it works to boost its growth after four years of stagnant sales.
Why Is Target Firing 1,800 Corporate Jobs?
The company’s decision to layoff 1,800 employees was revealed in a memo sent by incoming CEO Michael Fiddelke, as per a CNBC report. As per reports, the company’s financial situation is poor, as it faces sales and competitive challenges.
Fidelke stated that approximately 1,000 corporate employees will be fired, while 800 vacant positions will be eliminated, representing 8 per cent of Target’s global corporate workforce.
According to Fidelke, Target’s structure has become complex, which is holding the company back, as it has too many layers and overlapping responsibilities that slow down decision-making.
Why Target Asked Employees To Work From Home?
Target has asked all its corporate employees in the US to work from home for the next week. During this time the company will finalise the restructuring process. Employees who are affected by the layoffs are likely to get emails on Tuesday. The move is aimed at streamlining operations rather than cutting costs.
What Are The Challenges Target Is Dealing With?
The Minneapolis-based company is facing major challenges, such as – declining sales and criticism for some of its cutbacks. The company which once dominated the retail sector now been facing significant challenges over the past year.
Another major challenge for the company is getting tough competition from giants like Walmart, Amazon, and Costco. This is when the company is dealing with changing consumer habits which have impacted its household goods and clothing sales. To deal with all these challenges Target is taking some tough decisions.
