Penguin Random House India issued a clarification on Monday, saying that it holds the exclusive publishing rights to the General Naravane’s memoir, ‘Four Stars of Destiny’ and that the no copies of the book in any form has been published yet.
The statement comes amid growing controversy over the alleged circulation of unauthorised copies of the memoir and a political dispute that has reached Parliament. The Delhi Police on Monday filed an FIR and launched an investigation into what they describe as the suspected illegal distribution of material from a publication that has not yet been approved.
In its statement, Peguine Random House India said, “We hold the sole publishing rights for the book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’, a memoir by General Manoj Mukund Naravane, former Chief of the Indian Army. We wish to make it clear that the book has not gone into publication.”
The publisher further stated that no copies of the book, “in print or digital form have been published, distributed, sold, or otherwise made available to the public by us.
Controversy arose over General Naravane’s book after Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi quoted excerpts from the former Army Chief’s unpublished memoir, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “failed to fulfill his responsibility” during the 2020 India-China military clashes in Ladakh.
Last week, Rahul Gandhi was seen in Parliament holding what he claimed to be a copy of the book.
