‘Toy Story 5’ Release Date, ‘Woody’ And ‘Buzz’ To Unite Against A Tech Menace In The Upcoming Sequel

After a long wait of seven years, Toy Story 5 is finally arriving in theatres on June 19, 2026. A majority of the cast members are returning, giving their voices to the iconic characters from the highly successful animated franchise. There will be a different conflict this time, forcing the entire group to confront a device with its own idea of what is best for ‘Bonnie.’ The new sequel has created a lot of buzz, especially since producer Mark Nielsen claimed in 2019 that Pixar wants to focus on original films, making a follow-up unlikely.

The complete trailer of Toy Story 5 was released on February 19, 2026. The conflict between ‘Woody’ and the rest of the toys with the new device has already been established in the glimpse. The sequel entered development a long time ago in 2023, and the casting process was completed by 2025. The music department will be handled by Randy Newman once again. The fourth film collected USD 1 billion at the box office on a budget of USD 200 million. Critics and audiences are eagerly waiting to see if the sequel will live up to the expectations and bring something better in terms of storyline and screenplay.

Release date for Toy Story 5 was confirmed by Disney in 2024

As mentioned, Toy Story 5 was confirmed to be in development in 2023. Notably, Disney was making changes to its release calendar in 2024 and revealed during that period that Toy Story 5 will be released on February 19, 2026. A year before the sequel was announced, a spin-off titled Lightyear was released in 2022. The film focused on ‘Buzz Lightyear,’ who gets stuck on a planet, T’Kani Prime, and attempts to return home while facing a threat at the same time. Compared to the other films in the franchise, Lightyear could not repeat the same success, reportedly leading to layoffs at Pixar.

Toy Story 5 will feature Woody and the rest of the toys facing a device

Toy Story 5 is going to introduce a new villain this time, the ‘Lily Pad.’ The toy is a smart tablet with a frog-like shape. ‘Woody’ and the other toys will be forced to face ‘Lily Pad’ in the sequel, as it aims to create a distance between ‘Bonnie’ and the group. The smart tablet wants to make ‘Bonnie’ social, following which ‘Jessie’ decides to bring back ‘Woody’ for some help. ‘Woody’ has always been a leader of the toys, and considering that he knows a lot about ‘Bonnie,’ it is expected to bring a different kind of experience for the viewers in terms of the conflict with ‘Lily Pad.’

Back in June 2025, Disney shared a preview of the film alongside other movies at an exclusive presentation held in New York City. The preview shows that ‘Woody’ has stayed away from the toys for a long time, due to which he will once again have some trouble with them after returning. For the unversed, the fourth film ended with ‘Woody’ deciding to live like a lost toy by joining ‘Bo Peep.’ Moreover, ‘Woody’ also struggled to establish himself as an important part of ‘Bonnie’s’ life, who no longer needed him. Although ‘Woody’ opted to live with ‘Bo Peep,’ ‘Buzz’ was seen supporting ‘Woody’s’ decision.

New characters are being introduced in Toy Story 5

The Toy Story franchise is incomplete without ‘Woody’ and ‘Buzz Lightyear.’ As usual, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will be giving their voices to ‘Woody’ and ‘Buzz Lightyear,’ respectively. There is a long list of new additions to Toy Story 5. Among them, the antagonist, ‘Lilypad,’ will be voiced by actress, Greta Lee. Other new cast members include Shelby Rabara as ‘Snappy’ and Scarlett Spears as ‘Bonnie.’ ‘Atlas,’ ‘Blaze,’ and ‘Mr. Nutcase’ are a few more characters being introduced this time, voiced by Craig Robinson, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Matty Matheson.

Joan Cusack will give his voice for ‘Jessie’ alongside Conan O’Brien for ‘Smarty Pants,’ Jay Hernandez for ‘Mr. Anderson,’ Keanu Reeves for ‘Duke Caboom,’ and John Hopkins for ‘Mr. Pricklepants.’ The remaining actors who will be voicing the main characters include Blake Clark, Ernie Hudson, Tony Hale, John Ratzenberger, Wallace Shawn, Jeff Bergman, Anna Vocino, Lori Alan, Matty Matheson, and more. The film is being directed by Andrew Stanton, who wrote the previous four entries and was the executive producer of Lightyear.
