The note of a dancer who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent has been revealed following her death. Kerri-Anne Donaldson took her own life after she was arrested on suspicion of a sexual offence, an inquest has heard.
The dancer had reached the semi-final of hit ITV show BGT in 2014 when she was part of the dance group Kings and Queens. She performed alongside Neil and Katya Jones and Kai Widdrington, all of whom later became professionals on Strictly Come Dancing.
Sadly, on June 7, 2023, she was found dead at her home in Farnborough, Hampshire. An inquest into her death was held at Winchester today. It was told the 38-year-old was arrested on June 4 and questioned at a police station about a “sexual” offence, which she denied.
After Donaldson’s release, she failed to return home. This led to her family reporting her as a missing person before she was found at a Travelodge hotel in Woking, Surrey. Her sister, Cara Donaldson, explained to the hearing that when she arrived, her sibling was being taken to hospital in an ambulance having taken an overdose.
The following day, Cara said her sister didn’t answer her phone and that’s when she went to her home and found the tragic note. It was placed at the top of the stairs and read: “Call 999, do not come in. I am sorry.”
The inquest heard how the tune You Are So Beautiful was playing on repeat when Ms Donaldson was found. There was also a photograph of her dog folded up. It had a sad note on it which read: “If only you knew how many times you had saved me.”
There were also several photo books and canvases of family members found. Among them was a photo of Ms Donaldson with Cara alongside the words, “I am so sorry”.
A photograph of their parents also shared the words: “I am so sorry, I made the mistake of trust, I wish I could start again.”
The inquest was informed that a post-mortem examination said the cause of death was hanging. It also found that she had non-fatal levels of medication in her blood which were consistent with an overdose.
Speaking at the inquest, Cara said her sister had a “heart of gold”. She went on: “[She was] full of fun, brought happiness to life, especially mine, career-driven, adored her family, adored her friends, fantastic dance teacher, everyone loved her.”
The inquest was adjourned until Tuesday.
