President Trump said in an interview Thursday that he must be able to approve Iran’s next ruler — after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the initial US-Israeli attacks on the Middle Eastern country.
Trump said the front-runner, the late ayatollah’s son Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, is an unacceptable option.
“They are wasting their time. Khamenei’s son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy [Rodriguez] in Venezuela,” Trump told Axios.
“Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran.”
