The US has praised Pakistan’s stance on the proposed international military force in Gaza under Donald Trump’s peace plan. “We are very grateful to Pakistan for offering to be a part of it or at least considering being a part of it,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters at a press conference. US President Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan calls for sending troops from Muslim-majority countries to the war-torn Palestinian territory during the transition period. Pakistan has not yet decided on sending troops but has welcomed the move and said it is considering it.

Ongoing talks with Pakistan

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that he is confident that many countries will be part of the force. Rubio said that talks with Pakistan and other potential troop-contributing countries are still in the early stages, and many operational details have yet to be finalized. “To be honest, the countries we’ve talked to that want to be on the ground, they specifically want to know what the mandate is, what the funding structure will look like,” he said.

He further said, “Of course if Pakistan agrees then that is important, but I think we have to give them some more answers before we get there.” The Pakistani Foreign Ministry had said on Thursday that a decision on sending troops to the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza is still pending. “We have not yet decided on Pakistan’s participation in the ISF,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said at the weekly media briefing.

Speculation of a meeting between Munir and Trump

A Reuters report claimed that Pakistan’s CDF and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir could travel to Washington for talks with Trump, where the Gaza Stabilization Force would be a key issue. However, Andrabi denied the report and said, “We will wait for an official announcement from the Pakistani government on the event of such a visit.” The White House also said that no meeting between Munir and Trump is scheduled. A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Arab News that no meeting with Munir is currently “on the president’s calendar.”
