Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an outstanding innings, scoring 171 from only 95 balls, helping India secure a huge 234-run win against hosts UAE in the first match of the U19 Asia Cup on Friday.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a sensational performance, smashing 171 off just 95 balls to guide India to a massive 234-run victory over hosts UAE in the opening match of the U19 Asia Cup on Friday.
The 14-year-old from Samastipur Bihar, was unstoppable at the crease, hammering 14 sixes, the most ever hit by a batter in a single U19 ODI innings, during his extraordinary knock. His innings left the opposition stunned and set the tone for India’s dominance.
Supporting half-centuries from Vihaan Malhotra (69) and Aaron George (69) helped India post a staggering 433/6 in 50 overs, their highest total in U19 ODIs and the biggest score in the history of the U19 Asia Cup.
Chasing the enormous target, UAE could never find momentum despite solid fifties from Prithvi Madhu (50) and Uddish Suri (78*). They ended their innings at 199/7, far short of India’s total. Suryavanshi’s whirlwind knock, which included nine fours, is now the second-highest score by an Indian in youth ODIs, behind Ambati Rayudu’s 177* in 2002, and the ninth-highest score in men’s U19 ODI history.
Opening the innings, Vaibhav looked in a league of his own. He reached his fifty in 30 balls, completed his century in 56 deliveries, and then stitched a destructive 212-run partnership with George to completely crush UAE’s bowling attack. His innings came to an end in the 33rd over when he was bowled by Suri.
After his dismissal, India’s middle order kept the scoreboard ticking. Vedant Trivedi (38), Abhigyan Kundu (32*), and Kanishk Chouhan (28) ensured that the run flow never slowed, pushing India comfortably past the 400-run mark.
UAE’s chase fell apart early when they lost two wickets within the first four overs. A collapse soon followed, with three wickets falling in nine balls, leaving them sinking at 48/5. Although Suri and Madhu added 85 runs to steady the innings, the required rate was far beyond reach. With this dominant win, India have sent a strong message to the rest of the teams in the tournament, showcasing both depth and firepower in their squad.
