Valerie Perrine Dies At 82, All About ‘Superman’ Actress’ Cause Of Death And Final Years Explained

Veteran Hollywood actress, Valerie Perrine has bid farewell to the world at the age of 82. She was best known for her role in the prominent Superman films. According to her longtime friend and filmmaker, Stacey Souther, she passed away at her Los Angeles home on March 23, 2026. While her death has left fans and the film industry mourning over the loss, let’s know all about her cause of death.

What caused Valerie Perrine’s death?

According to TMZ and The Hollywood Reporter, Valerie Perrine died at her home. Although the exact cause of her death has not been revealed, she had been reportedly battling Parkinson’s disease for over a decade. Moreover, the actress was largely bedridden in recent years after her condition became worse, leading up to her death. On the other hand, Stacey Souther was closely involved in her care during her final days and highlighted how Valerie Perrine showed immense courage throughout her health struggles. 

Despite her declining condition, she remained emotionally connected to her work. Furthermore, sources close to her told TMZ that the actress spent her final days revisiting her films, even watching her old performances shortly before her passing. At the same time, she was deeply affected by the death of her former co-star Gene Hackman, with whom she shared a close bond from their days on Superman sets.

After Valerie Perrine’s illness, she stepped away from public life. In fact, during the last decade, she rarely appeared on-screen and focused on managing her health. According to The Hollywood Reporter, her journey with Parkinson’s was also documented to raise awareness among those suffering from it. Later, she displayed immense strength when she carried herself through her final years. Recalling their time together, Stacy said:

“Valerie Perrine gave everything she had to her craft, her fans, and her life — with grace, humor, and an indomitable spirit that Parkinson’s itself could never fully extinguish”.

Was Valerie Perrine married? 

Valerie Perrine was known to be a private person. She never tied the knot and had no kids. But she shared close relationships with a small circle of loved ones. She is survived by her brother, Ken Perrine, who is also said to be battling Parkinson’s disease. Her longtime friend and caregiver, Stacey, played a significant role in her later years and was often called her family. As per reports, Valerie wanted herself to be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. Her brother, Ken, shared a small note at her death, which read:

“She lived an extraordinary life most of us can only dream of… She fought till the end and never gave up”.

She rose to fame for her performance in Lenny, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
