Vicky Kaushal has already proven his ability to handle larger-than-life characters with his last project, Chhaava. Now, he is gearing up for another ambitious role in the mythological epic Mahavatar. Directed by Amar Kaushik, who is known for the success of Stree, the film will see Vicky playing Chiranjeevi Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu.
The film is scheduled to go on floors in October. The eight-month gap before filming begins is intentional, as Vicky needs some time to transform his physique. According to reports, he is required to build a bulky, heavy frame for the role, described as being similar to that of a wrestler. This look will be further enhanced by a rugged appearance and long, matted hair.
However, fans will have to wait a little longer for this transformation to begin. A source told mid-day, “The actor cannot begin his physical prep as he is currently shooting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, in which he sports an athletic look.” Vicky is expected to wrap up his commitments for Bhansali’s film by April. Once that project reaches the finish line, he will switch to a new diet plan and a rigorous workout regime specifically designed for Mahavatar.
Given the intense physical demands and the distinct look required for the film, it is unlikely that Vicky will take on any other projects while filming the epic. While he prepares for the role, producer Dinesh Vijan and director Amar Kaushik are utilizing the pre-production phase to build the film’s world. The Director of Photography (DoP), along with the art, production, and costume design teams, have already started soft prep.
The search for the film’s leading lady, who will play the character of Dharini, is currently underway. While there were rumours suggesting Deepika Padukone might take the role, sources have clarified that these claims were baseless. Mahavatar marks another collaboration between Vicky and producer Dinesh Vijan, after their work on Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Chhaava.
