Victoria Beckham turns 52 next week but insiders have told us that she is “heartbroken” ahead of the big day thanks to the rift with eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz
Victoria Beckham celebrated her milestone 50th birthday surrounded by her family – including estranged son Brooklyn – and A-list friends. But as she prepares to turn 52 next week, things couldn’t be more different.
While her eldest son may have snubbed her 51st bash in Miami last year, this will be her first since he publicly disowned her and his father, Sir David, via a devastating six-slide Instagram post in January.
Now, a source tells us Posh’s upcoming birthday on 17 April, will be more of an endurance test than a cause for celebration, after Brooklyn accused her of “hijacking” the first dance at his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.

“Victoria’s dreading it,” says our source. “It’s really, really difficult for her. She’s trying to keep busy with work to distract herself, but her heart is broken.”
It’s all in stark contrast to how the singer-turned-fashion designer has celebrated her big day in years gone by, when she’s put her children, including Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14, front and centre.
Going forward, however, birthdays look set to become increasingly bittersweet occasions for the family, who were previously considered one of the tightest units in showbiz.
Last month, on Brooklyn’s 27th, David and Victoria extended an olive branch, both acknowledging his special day with affectionate social media posts.
Taking to Instagram, they shared touching throwback photos of themselves with their son, along with heartfelt birthday wishes.
Posting a snap of himself and Victoria holding Brooklyn as a baby, dad David wrote, “27 today. Happy Birthday Bust. We love you x.” Sharing the same photo alongside a black and white shot of herself with Brooklyn as a toddler, Victoria penned, “Happy Birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much.”
Sadly, the messages are likely to have rankled with Brooklyn, who hit out at his parents’ “performative social media posts” in his stinging online statement.
Last month, he didn’t publicly acknowledge Victoria on Mother’s Day, instead posting on Instagram to wish his mother-in-law, Claudia Heffner Peltz, a happy birthday. According to our source, it’s highly unlikely his own mother will receive the same treatment next week.
“Victoria knows she’s going to be ignored by Brooklyn – he’s totally blanking her with every form of contact,” says our source. “The gushing birthday post about Nicola’s mum was just a knife to the heart. She thinks he purposely did it to hurt her and just doesn’t understand. David thinks Brooklyn has been cruel and is at the end of his tether now. He doesn’t want to talk about Brooklyn now.”
With Brooklyn now out of the picture, it’s believed her other three children – who all appear to be “Team Mum and Dad” – will be doing everything they can to make her birthday as special as possible.
In recent months they have been at Posh’s side at key events, including Paris Fashion Week, where she received one of France’s top accolades, the Knight of the National Order of Arts and Letters, at the capital’s Ministry of Culture.
David, Harper, Romeo and Cruz – as well as the boys’ respective girlfriends, Kim Turnbull, 24, and Jackie Apostel, 30 – looked on proudly as the she received her honour. Harper later posted a sweet tribute to her mother, writing, “My biggest role model x”.
More recently, the family were out in force again to support Cruz as he and his band performed at the Courtyard Theatre, Hackney, London on 27 March. They were joined by Victoria’s former Spice Girl bandmate Geri Halliwell, 53, and her 19-year-old daughter Bluebell, with onlookers describing the atmosphere as having “big happy family vibes”.
Yet despite Cruz’s successful tour helping to lift his mother’s spirits, our source says she’s still struggling with her estrangement from her firstborn.
“It’s all becoming too much,” says our source. “The rest of the family have been amazing, and they are all going to be showing Victoria what a wonderful mum she is on her birthday, but it’s going to be a difficult day for her.
“Cruz, in particular, can see how much his mum is hurting. He’s really been there for her and is very understanding and empathetic.“
It’s hardly surprising Victoria is finding it hard to move on. The former Spice Girl has long spoken of the importance of family, and as recently as last October stressed that being open is key. “The way we’ve brought up our kids is all about communication. It’s good to talk,” she said.
“As a family, we try to have dinner together every night – it’s phones down and ‘What has everyone done today?’ Just making sure that it’s a safe forum for everybody to be honest and talk and laugh.”
And while the family may live the type of lavish lifestyle most can only dream of, she has said that she and David have “never spoiled the children with anything other than love”, adding that they are an affectionate family who are “always cuddling”.
For Victoria and Brooklyn, that closeness is sadly a thing of the past and while his siblings might be doing their best to compensate, our source says it will be impossible for Victoria to fully enjoy her big day next week.
“She’s trying to be strong, and will put on a brave face, but it’s tough,” says our source. “She knows she has great support from David and her children, but all she really wants is to have Brooklyn back in her life.”
