Vinod Khanna Had Lung Cancer Before Battling Bladder Cancer, Said, ‘I Don’t Want To Torture My Body’

Vinod Khanna was one of the most charming actors in Bollywood. He passed away in 2017 after a long battle with bladder cancer. But do you know the actor was first diagnosed with lung cancer? Yes, it is not known to many, but Vinod got patches in the lungs, which were confirmed as cancer. His second wife, Kavita Khanna, has shared some lesser-known details about his cancer journey.

Vinod Khanna would smoke 40 to 80 cigarettes a day

In a recent video shared on YouTube, Vinod Khanna’s second wife, Kavita Khanna, revealed that the actor was first diagnosed with lung cancer in the early 2000s because of his intense smoking. Speaking about his diagnosis, she shared:

“It was 2001 when Vinod had a diagnosis of lung cancer. He’d gone for his annual checkup, and they saw patches in the lungs. He’d smoke 40 to 80 cigarettes a day. We went to the leading MRI specialists of Mumbai, and they all said it was lung cancer.”

Doctors even told him that they would have to remove half of his lung. The couple, however, chose to keep the diagnosis private and sought the guidance of spiritual leader, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Gurudev suggested him to visit his ashram and practice Sudarshan Kriya there three times a day. However, one day, Vinod got a severe pain around his shoulder and as per Gurudev’s suggestion, he went to have an X-ray. It was surprising for both Vinod and Kavita that not only was his shoulder fine, but the actor had no cancer either. The doctors couldn’t believe that his cancer had been cured.

Vinod Khanna was given two years after being diagnosed with bladder cancer

In 2010, Vinod Khanna was diagnosed with bladder cancer and was given only a 25 percent chance of survival after all the allopathic treatment. But Vinod was not ready to torture his body and sought Gurudev’s guidance. Speaking about the same, Kavita recalled:

“The prognosis was if he did everything that allopathy had to offer, there was a 25% chance he’d be alive after two years. Vinod then called Gurudev and said, ‘I’ve lived a full life. And if my time to go has come, I’m ready to go. But I don’t want to torture my body.’ So, Gurudev asked him to come to the ashram and do the panchkarma. In two years from when he was first diagnosed, the cancer was gone. We did the scans in America, and it was gone”.

Vinod was asked to quit alcohol, but he took one or two glasses every evening. He was doing fine when his health started deteriorating suddenly, and in 2017, he passed away at the age of 70. Just before his death, a picture of a fragile-looking Vinod Khanna had gone viral on social media.

Vinod Khanna was an actor who gave tough competition to stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Rishi Kapoor, and many others. After making his acting debut in 1968 with the film, Man Ka Meet, Vinod went on to star in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Achanak, Amar Akbar Anthony, Qurbani, and many others. When Vinod was at the peak of his career, he left the entertainment world and went to the US to follow his spiritual journey. He joined spiritual guru Osho Rajneesh and took a break from acting.
