Lucy Pollard regularly visits charity shops and shares her finds on TikTok, and was gobsmacked by the incredible finds she came across in one store. “I have hit the vintage jackpot,” she said.
A woman was left stunned when she discovered a beautiful vintage coat in a charity shop for an incredible price. Lucy Pollard has amassed more than 2,000 followers on TikTok, where she frequently showcases items she finds in charity shops and resells on the second-hand platform Vinted.
A recent trip to a shop operated by palliative and bereavement support charity Sue Ryder following a visit to the Jobcentre proved especially rewarding. Lucy flaunted her impressive haul on TikTok.
“Whenever I have to go to the Jobcentre I always reward myself by going to the big Sue Ryder that is around the corner,” she shared. “It is a big stand-alone, like retail park size and it’s just around the back, so that is my treat when I have to endure going to the Jobcentre, and today I have hit a vintage jackpot.
“I wasn’t going in looking for vintage, usually there isn’t any, and I actually had to leave a lot behind. You should have seen the amount that I had in my hands at one point and I just thought ‘no, this is silly’.”
Lucy mentioned the shop was hosting a £1 sale on trousers, skirts, and jeans, which she described as “very fun”. Promising to “save the best ’til last”, Lucy began by presenting a pair of khaki green trousers complete with a matching belt, reports the Manchester Evening News.
“These are a vintage size 14 and they fit a modern eight, so I find that really crazy,” she said. “I can get them on because I’m between an eight and a 10, but they would be too tight for me, like my personal preference, and they’re very high-waisted, which I don’t really wear any more, but excellent.”
Presenting her second item, which she labelled as “maybe the second-best thing”, Lucy showcased a blue and black checked skirt. “I mean – a pound,” she exclaimed. “That one is for me. It fits me perfectly. Very happy with that.”
Lucy also displayed a red checked skirt and a pair of Firetrap jeans, both of which she suggested she might upcycle, as well as a 1970s-style hand-knitted cardigan vest. And for the star of her haul, Lucy revealed a brown wool and cashmere Mansfield coat.
“This is definitely to re-sell because it’s absolutely not my colour,” she declared. “But the style is amazing and it fits me rather nicely.
“And that was a tenner. A tenner for Mansfield! Are you having joking!”
Lucy also exhibited a couple of finds she’d discovered in the non-sale section, including a blue and burgundy man’s shirt, priced at £3, and a green Adidas basketball jersey – although securing this piece hadn’t been without its drama.
“Some man tried to get this off me,” she explained. “I was trying on the Mansfield coat so I’d hung this to the side and he tried to get it. I was like ‘yoink!’ And he ‘oh, I was just going to grab that’ and I was like ‘I know you were, I could see you, I could sense it’.”
People were impressed by Lucy’s discoveries. One commented: “That coat is a great find! Love the blue and burgundy shirt and the jersey, you have such good charity shops near you.”
Another posted: “That coat is STUNNING and I totally think it’s a colour that suits you. Wear with a bright green scarf? Also loved the first pair of trousers.”
