An alleged neo-Nazi who was socialising with members of a far-right socialist group at a pub has been accused of making the Nazi salute after patrons, disturbed by his racial slurs, recorded him and informed police.

It’s alleged that between 6pm and 6.30pm the accused performed four separate Nazi salute gestures in full view of the public that were recorded by other patrons.

“Despite being aware he was being filmed, the accused allegedly responded by making an obscene gesture and then repeated the Nazi salute,” a WA Police spokesman said.

“As he exited the premises, he allegedly made another Nazi salute before walking away.”

The man was arrested two weeks ago in Jurien Bay and charged with making a Nazi gesture in a public place.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.

Missing girl, 12, seen talking to unidentified man at basketball courts, cold case police say

Detectives investigating one of the state’s oldest cold case mysteries say they have had a major breakthrough, with a new witness coming forward.

Lisa Mott, 12, vanished from Collie in October 1980 after attending the local basketball courts with a friend and then a pizza shop.

WA Police believe this yellow panel van could hold clues to the disappearance of Lisa Mott in 1980.

She was last seen around 9pm exiting the pizza shop and crossing a railway to Forrest Street, before entering a yellow panel van, believed to be a Holden 1970 to 1978 model.

WA Police say new information about Lisa’s final known movements has come to light through a fresh appeal for information made earlier this year.

“An eyewitness has told detectives she saw Lisa talking to a male, who Lisa appeared to know, at the basketball courts the same evening she went missing,” a spokeswoman said.

“The witness had seen this male at the courts about three times previously.

“Investigators are today releasing a description of that male, who may be able to assist police with this investigation, in the hope it may jog someone’s memory and that person or the man himself, may come forward to help solve this case.”

The male is described as approximately 18 to 20-years-old at the time and tall with curly hair.

It is believed he was leaning on a yellow Holden panel van during the conversation with Lisa.

Detectives have been unable to identify the male described and are asking him to come forward.

Additional, unrelated investigative lines of inquiry have also led detectives to search a number of wells south of Collie for Lisa’s remains.

Perth Glory sack head coach

Perth Glory has sacked its head coach, David Zdrilic just two games into the new A-League season.

It would have been Zdrilic’s second season at the helm, after the club finished bottom of the ladder last season, managing just four wins and 17 defeats.

The sudden departure of the former Socceroo-turned-coach comes after Glory lost 4-0 to champions Melbourne City last weekend.

Zdrilic was halfway through a three-year contract.

The club informed players yesterday before releasing the following statement:

Owner and Chairman Ross Pelligra and the Perth Glory Board would like to place on record their gratitude to David for his hard work and professionalism throughout his tenure at the club and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

Members of the existing support staff will take temporary charge of the team for Friday’s home game against Melbourne Victory and an announcement regarding the appointment of a new, permanent Head Coach will be made in due course.

The club will not be issuing any further comment at this time.

Welcome to our live news blog

Good morning and welcome to our live news blog for Wednesday, October 29.

Making headlines today, a meth-fuelled rendezvous in the pre-dawn hours at a Dianella car park has culminated in a bitter legal battle, with two unlicensed motorcycle riders suing one another for damages after a ‘catastrophic’ collision.

The two men – who court documents revealed were both high on drugs when they crashed into each other on Alexander Drive on September 12, 2020 – now face a future forever altered: one is a paraplegic, while the other, also seriously injured, seeks compensation from his former mate.

The case, which places their reckless midnight escapade under the legal spotlight, hinges on the difficult question of who bears the blame for the life-shattering crash.

Meanwhile, experts have warned that West Australian public schools are not doing enough to help students prepare for the looming social media ban and a predicted spike in anxiety, irritability and social friction.

The federal government ban will come into effect in under 50 days’ time, and several of the state’s private schools have publicly spoken about their plans to help students adjust.

But clinical psychologist Kerstin Anderson-Ridge said she was concerned the state government had not given public school students the same opportunity to prepare.
