Washington Sundar was born on October 5, 1999, in Tamil Nadu, into a cricket-enthusiast family. While his father, Mani Sundar, was considered for the Tamil Nadu state team, Washington’s sister, M.S. Shailaja, has represented Tamil Nadu. From an early age, Washington was exposed to cricket, saw his father coaching, and even received his first cricket kit from his father’s academy. He made his debut in domestic cricket in October 2016 and also featured in the India U-19 World Cup squad of the same year.

Washington Sundar is also India’s youngest T20I player, having made his debut at just 18 years and 80 days old against Sri Lanka in 2017. However, he caught everyone’s attention when Rising Pune Supergiants selected him as a replacement for an injured Ravichandran Ashwin in the 2017 IPL season. In 2018, Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him, and in the same year, Washington was included in India C’s squad for the Deodhar Trophy.
In the 2022 IPL Auction, RCB sold Washington Sundar to Sunrisers Hyderabad, and in the IPL 2025 Auction, Gujarat Titans signed Washington for Rs. 3.2 crores. What’s interesting is that ahead of the 2026 IPL Auction, reports are rife that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is targeting Washington as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin. After India won the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Washington Sundar and Sahiba Bali’s alleged romance took a backseat, and later on, the heated rumours fell off the headlines. The IPL 2025 started on March 22, 2025, and Washington was playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT), when several Telugu news tabloids and publications reportedly linked him with popular model and actress Varshini Sounderajan. The Telugu actress and Washington reportedly praised each other during an alleged interaction, after which fans started speculating their dating rumours.
Soon, Varshini Sounderajan was spotted attending Gujarat Titans matches, which added much-needed fuel to her dating rumours with Washington Sundar.
