Turkish giants Galatasaray have put Liverpool on the backfoot of their Champions League last-16 clash in Istanbul.

The Reds are looking to make up for their inconsistent Premier League form by adding another European trophy to their collection, but have fallen behind in the first leg.

Galatasaray’s goal came after just seven minutes, with Mario Lemina scoring.

The defensive midfielder was on hand to head the ball home after a corner from the home side was met by Victor Osimhen.

Nigeria’s star striker powered the ball towards the Liverpool net, with none of the visiting players reacting quickly enough, with most of them standing still after seeing the ball end up in the back of their net.

It was not the start the Merseyside club were looking for, particularly with Mohamed Salah celebrating becoming Liverpool’s record appearance maker in the Champions League, overtaking Jamie Carragher.

The Reds still find themselves behind at the break, with plenty of work to be done before they return to Anfield for the second leg next week.
