Former India captain Rohit Sharma was all at sea in the first half of his innings in the second ODI against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. But it took one over from Aussie and Punjab Kings all-rounder Mitchell Owen to change the entire tempo of his innings.

Rohit unleashed his trademark pull shots against Owen to kick his innings into top gear. After going at strike-rate of 30 from his first 20 ball, the former India ODI skipper zoomed well past 100 after 40 deliveries. The Mumbai Indians batter smashed two sixes in three balls against Owen to roar into the 40s.

Rohit brought up his 59th ODI century and his 345th and 346th ODI sixes to close in on record of former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. The Pakistani cricketer holds the record of most sixes in ODI cricket with 351 in 398 games while Rohit has mind-boggling 346 maximums in just 275 games.

Owen was signed up for Rs 3 crore by Preity Zinta’s PBKS team as an injury replacement for Glenn Maxwell in the IPL 2025 season earlier this year.

En route to scoring 73 off 97 balls and finally hitting form down under, Rohit also became the first Indian batter to scored 1000 runs in ODI cricket against Australia in Australia. The ‘Hitman’ has over 1000 runs at an average of over 55 with 4 hundreds and a best of 171.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli, who has managed back-to-back ducks in the three-match ODI series so far, has managed 802 runs in 20 ODIs at an average of 44.55 down under with 3 centuries and 4 fifties to his name.

Following Kohli, Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar tallied 740 runs in 25 ODIs at an average of 30.83 with 1 century and 5 fifties while former India captain MS Dhoni had scored 684 runs in 21 ODIs at an average of 45.6 with 5 fifties.

Rohit would have been eyeing his 33rd ODI century but heartbreaking fell for 73, falling to his favourite pull-shot off Mitchell Starc after a 118-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, who scored 61 off 77 balls with 7 fours.
