Wayne Lineker has revealed he will be in hospital for Christmas as he shared a concerning health update after a pneumonia diagnosis almost killed the famous nightclub owner
Wayne Lineker has revealed he has suffered a second severe attack after almost dying from pneumonia. The nightclub owner, 62, said earlier this month that he almost lost his life after contracting a nasty bout of pneumonia – and confessed he’d had an operation to help ease his intense pain.
But now, in a new update he has confirmed he took a turn for the worse after being discharged from hospital. Taking to Facebook, he firstly thanked his followers for their messages of support and concern.
Explaining he wanted to share a nicer photo of myself, as I’m not looking my best right now” he said: “Unfortunately, after being discharged from hospital last week with antibiotics and further medication, I was only home for four days before suffering a severe second attack. While being cared for at home by my son @seanlineker1 I had to be taken back to hospital by ambulance – thank goodness he was there.”

He went on to say he is still suffering from pneumonia and doctors are needing to investigate his condition. He revealed experts are looking into why the antibiotics haven’t been fully effective.
Wayne said: “I’ve had countless scans and blood tests, with many results already back and more still to come. The good news is that it appears to have nothing to do with my heart and is more likely linked to my immune system, which hasn’t been the same since I stopped drinking alcohol.
“I experienced multiple infections during rehab due to such a drastic lifestyle change, and now, almost six months sober, this still seems to be a significant factor. If this is confirmed, I’ll be treated with a strong course of antibiotics and steroids via drip.”
And in a devastating admission, he said it is “now looking like I’ll be spending Christmas in hospital”. However, he said he has come to accept it, and insists “I’ll stay here until I’m completely well enough to go home”.
He shared the same update on his Instagram account and was met with support from his celebrity pals. Among them was Celebs Go Dating star Anna Williamson.
The dating expert said: “Sending so much love Wayne and a swift recovery. Take your time.” Former Strictly star and actor Karim Zeroual also shared a positive message.
He said: “Bro you know I’m there when you need Espresso Karimy! Sending you all the love mate! Love you dearly OG xxx .”
And his nephew George Lineker also shared his support. He simply wrote: “Stay strong uncle,” and followed it up with a fist punching emoji.
The elder brother of top football pundit Gary Lineker previously revealed he had been left unable to walk, after being rushed to hospital when he fell seriously ill. He spent nearly 10 days in intensive care after falling ill following a flight to Dubai – and immediately came home.
At the time, he said: “The last 16 days have been the most traumatic of my life… a truly near-death experience. I honestly don’t think I would have been medically strong enough to survive it if I wasn’t four months sober.
“To the incredible NHS staff who cared for me: thank you. Those two words don’t feel enough, but I mean them with all my heart.
“Next season, I’ll be doing something special for NHS hospital workers across the UK to show my gratitude for saving my life.”
