The actor had a flurry of high-profile roles in recent years, sparking renewed interest in his private life

Bill Skarsgård has played a series of nightmarish characters on-screen, from Nosferatu’s towering Count Orlok to the chilling Roman Godfrey in Hemlock Grove.

Perhaps one of his most famous villains though is Pennywise the Dancing Clown, with the star bringing the role once played by Rocky Horror legend Tim Curry to the big screen in 2017’s IT Chapter One and 2019 sequel IT Chapter Two.

He is now reprising that role once more for the IT-inspired TV series, Welcome to Derry. The eight-part series will explore the origins of the sewer-dwelling creature in more depth, drawing from the interlude pages in Stephen King’s 1986 novel.

With the series available for UK viewers tomorrow (October 27), fans may be wondering more about star Bill’s life away from the cameras.

The 35-year-old actor isn’t married but he is in a long-term relationship with Swedish actress Alida Morberg, 40, with whom he shares two children, a daughter born in 2019 and a second child born in 2023.

The pair once appeared in the same show in 2022 miniseries Clark years into their romance. The duo have been romantically linked since 2016 after the were spotted together at the premiere of The Divergent Series: Allegiant, and the following month, Alida shared a photo of the actor on her Instagram account.

They prefer to keep their private life out of the spotlight, so it remains under wraps exactly how they first met and they have also kept details about their children out of the public eye.

Bill’s dating history before meeting Alida also remains unclear, especially given the star’s aversion to social media.

When does Bill Skarsgård appear in Welcome to Derry?

The exact episode the star appears as Pennywise in remains a closely-guarded secret for now, but the show’s executive producers, Andy and Barbara Muschietti, teased that it would come later in the series.

“I’ve said this before, but he is our shark,” Barbara said in an interview with Screen Rant. “You’ve got to bring him out with all his complexity in the right moments, otherwise It loses its power.

“I am absolutely convinced that he is still as terrifying as he is because of that dose-ification.”

IT: Welcome to Derry premieres on Sky and NOW TV on October 27 with episodes then released weekly every Monday
