Since blush is the MVP of everyone’s beauty routines this year, a new hybrid trend has emerged: blonzing. Favoured by make-up artists and beauty creators alike, simply put, it is the combined use of bronzer and blush. “It’s a hybrid technique that merges the warmth of bronzer with the flush of blush, giving skin a luxe, radiant, sunlit glow like you’ve just spent a weekend by the sea.” says Leiya Phinao Ningshen, national artist with MAC.

A major win for those loving a streamlined make-up routine.

How exactly does one blonze?

Think of blonzing as applying bronzer and blush together; bronzer followed by a blush on the cheeks, nose and the edges of your forehead. The main aim is to add a flush of colour while also adding depth and dimension to your face. “Use a fluffy angled brush. Start with the bronzer at the high points of the cheeks and sweep towards temples. Then lightly dust across the bridge of the nose, forehead edges and chin, all the spots where sunlight naturally hits. Add a wash of blush by diffusing it into the bronzer. Finish with a dash of highlighter for that extra radiance.” suggests Ningshen. Or, some professionals even recommend using just a toasted shade of blush instead, since it is the closest to a bronzer, to achieve the perfect blonzed look.

The placement

Blonzing should look like you returned from a beach getaway and not like a bad tan. “So, when blonzing always hit the high points of the face. Wherever the sun would naturally kiss the skin. Think: tops of the cheeks, across the bridge of the nose, a little on the temples, and even a little on the forehead and chin,” says Namrata Soni, celebrity make-up artist and co-founder of Simply Nam. “I also like to take a bit onto the eyelids using the same blush to create a soft, unified warmth across the face. It gives a beautiful, cohesive finish and really ties the look together. Since the goal is to create a halo of warmth that looks natural, and not overly structured.”

“Blonzing is about marrying warmth and radiance”, adds Soni “So always go for shades that sit between terracotta, soft peach and rosy bronze. For Indian skin tones, you want to stay away from anything too ashy or overly orange. My go-to shades carry a warm pink or copper undertone.”
