What Happens To Princess Beatrice And Eugenie After Prince Andrew Loses His Royals Titles? Find Out

After weeks of speculation, King Charles III has finally mademade the official decision to strip his younger brother, Prince Andrew’s,Andrew, of his royal titles. Buckingham Palace has announced that from hereon, he will be simply known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. 

It is a historic moment, and the first time in over a century that a senior member of the British royal family has lost every royal title, including ‘Prince’ and ‘His Royal Highness’. In the same bid, the 65-year-old royal will leave his long-time residence at Royal Lodge, Windsor. The decision comes after renewed public scrutiny of his ties to the late financier, Jeffrey Epstein.

What happens to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie now? 

After the official announcement by the palace, many royal watchers have been curious about whether the removal of Prince Andrew’s royal titles will affect his daughters and whether it will be permanent or not. According to King George V’s 1917 Letters Patent, both Princess Beatrice and Eugenie will retain their titles and royal styles, regardless of their father’s situation. The document had previously clarified that the children of a monarch’s sons are eligible to be styled as ‘His or Her Royal Highness’ and hold the titles of Prince or Princess.

Therefore, despite the removal of Andrew’s royal ranks, his daughters Princess Beatrice and Eugenie’s titles remain secure as their birthright. According to some royal historians, the titles were granted through lineage rather than courtesy. It means that they cannot be removed based on the change in their father’s status. Sharing more about the same, a palace source told The Times:

“Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s titles are protected under the Letters Patent. They are not affected by their father’s personal or royal standing.”

Can Andrew’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, continue to use her royal titles? 

Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who was known as the Duchess of York since their 1986 marriage, has been equally impacted by the change in titles. Unlike her daughters, protected through royal protocols, Sarah can not use her former duchess style after the Duke of York title will no longer be in use. Although. Sarah Ferguson uses her maiden name professionally; she will now be referred to simply as Sarah Ferguson. Her social media accounts have already reflected the change. For instance, her X account was updated from @SarahTheDuchess to @sarahMFergie15. However, sources close to her told PEOPLE that she will continue to support Andrew in private.

Why are Prince Andrew’s royal titles taken away? 

Prince Andrew has been stripped of all royal titles after years of increasing controversy surrounding his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier accused of s*x trafficking. The decision comes after renewed public outrage over the release of a posthumous memoir by Epstein victim, Virginia Giuffre, who had previously filed a civil lawsuit against Andrew in 2022. She accused him of s**ual a**ault when she was a minor. 

Although Andrew denied all allegations and settled the case out of court without admitting guilt, the incident damaged his family’s image. In fact, his 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, where he tried to defend their bond, made things worse. The new decision reflects his approach of ‘zero tolerance for misconduct’ through a historical royal disciplinary action.
