He was reportedly hospitalised at the Saint John’s Health Centre in Santa Monica, California, where his wife, Christina, and daughter, Everest, were able to bid the final goodbye. For the unversed, Alex Duong had been suffering from a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma is an aggressive form of cancer, which spreads as soon as it occurs, and Alex was told that the tumour, which was preventing the blood flow to the nerve of his left eye, would spread from his nose to his neck. He was also told that this form of cancer has a very low survival rate. Speaking of treatment, it involves a combination of surgical resection, chemotherapy, and radiation.

In an interview last year, in 2025, he revealed that he owed USD 400K in medical bills, and he got a lot of help from the GoFundMe that was created for him. Alex had to wear a black patch in his left eye, and the actor, who is a comedian at heart and profession, said that he could only see black feathers from his left eye. He was also a strong individual, however, he didn’t like to be called that way as all he wanted was to make jokes and make people laugh.
