Andrea Bocelli is an Italian Tenor and multi-instrumentalist who will be headlining the Milan opening ceremony at the San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan, Italy, ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The Italian legend has had a long and impressive career spanning over decades and is a global star.

Andrea has won numerous awards for his art, and he first rose to fame when, Andrea won the preliminary round of the 44^th Sanmero Music Festival with his performance of Miserere, a performance that earned him the highest score ever recorded in the newcomers’ section. Andrea has also had quite an unruffled love life and is supposed to have lived a double life for 25 years. Here’s what we know about the Italian legend’s love and marriage. 

Early life and career of Andrea Bocelli

Andrea Bocelli’s story began in the quiet Tuscan town of Lajatico, Italy, where he was born on September 22, 1958. Although he entered the world with partial sight, he was diagnosed early with congenital glaucoma, a condition that gradually worsened. At the age of twelve, a soccer accident led to a brain haemorrhage, resulting in the complete loss of his vision. Raised in a family of farmers and winemakers, Bocelli nonetheless showed an early and unmistakable pull toward music.

By the time Andrea was six, he had started piano lessons and soon expanded his skills to several other instruments, including the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and percussion. With gentle encouragement from his nanny, Andrea began singing as well, and by the age of seven, he could already identify and imitate famous vocalists. Andrea’s talent gained public recognition at fourteen when he won his first singing competition, performing O sole mio at the Margherita d’Oro in Viareggio. While pursuing a law degree at the University of Pisa, Bocelli supported himself by playing in piano bars at night. He eventually completed his studies and spent a year working as a court-appointed lawyer, even as music continued to shape his true path.

Andrea’s marriage to first wife, Enrica, and then to Veronica

Andrea met his first wife, Enrica Cenzatti, during the early stages of his career, and the two exchanged vows on June 27, 1992. The couple welcomed their son Amos on February 22, 1995, and their second son, Matteo, on October 8, 1997. Andrea divorced Enrica after five years of marriage, and he met Veronica Berti, who became his wife and manager in 2002.

Andrea and Veronica courted for 10 years until they decided to get married in 2014 in a private ceremony in Monetenero in Livorno, Italy. For her wedding to Andrea, Veronica wore an Ermanno Scervino gown, and Andrea wore a blue Corneliani suit. In September 2011, they announced the news about their first child and welcomed a daughter, Virginia, in the spring of 2012.

Veronica and Andrea share a beautiful marriage

Veronica and Andrea define couple goals and what it means to stay together no matter what the ups and downs in a relationship. Veronica supports Andrea’s passion for music and has been a constant with him throughout his journey, sometimes even as his duet partner. Veronica believes there is a fatal attraction between them and that she is not affected by women who get closer to her husband as he performs on stage. In 2023, Andrea and Veronica took a scenic trip through Italy and filmed their journey and released it as a documentary titled Journey: A Music Special from Andrea Bocelli. She said: 

“It would be silly. If it’s a nice person, someone pleasant, whom you can sing about love with and be inspired from, all the better,”

On their first meeting, Andrea serenaded Veronica with a song; that’s how taken he was with her. Andrea had called up his friend over the phone, and in the background, heard the voice of his now wife, Veronica. In 2002, on a rainy night, Andrea was at a party when he saw a woman sitting alone by the piano in an empty room, and then he heard her voice, and today, well, they have been married for 22 years. Veronica was 18 years old at the time, and the duo connected through a common friend. On the night they met, they exchanged some good conversations about Veronica’s life, and she found him charming, and they did not lose their energy or the moment despite their 12-year age gap. He said:

“When two people still want to be together in every possible way after many years, it means that one soul completes the other, that we recognised each other.” 

Andrea describes Veronica as his best friend, and during his 30-year career, the 40-year-old Veronica has been a huge supporter of his passion. Andrea has released 15 studio albums and sold more than 75 million copies of his music over the years. As a couple who share not just personal but professional life as well, Andrea and Veronica often have disagreements, but they don’t let them get out of hand and often find a common ground to agree upon. Veronica is also a part of his sons’ lives from his first marriage, and both of Andrea’s sons seem to have inherited their father’s gift of music.
