New Delhi: The US Presidential Office has released a list of donors who are funding the construction of a new ballroom in the White House complex. Trump has repeatedly stated that the ballroom’s cost is being met entirely through private funding, meaning it will not burden taxpayers.

On Wednesday, while discussing the project, Trump said it would cost approximately $300 million. Previously, the Trump administration had estimated the ballroom’s cost at $200 million.

Major companies like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta have donated

According to the White House, major companies like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta have donated to President Donald Trump’s proposed 90,000-square-foot ballroom.

Trump’s ballroom project is the first major renovation project in decades. Under this initiative, Trump will demolish the East Wing of the White House and convert it into a grand ballroom that can accommodate 1,000 people.

Need for a grand ballroom

The East Wing of the White House houses the office of the First Lady, the wife of the US President, and her staff. The East Wing was built in 1902 and has been modified periodically. However, Trump has now bulldozed it and wants to transform it into a magnificent ballroom.

Trump says the White House has always needed a grand ballroom to accommodate state visits by foreign heads of state. He says government events present challenges with large gatherings, and a new ballroom is the solution.

Who is funding the grand ballroom?

In addition to major companies like Apple and Meta, the ballroom is being funded by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, co-founders of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and his family, and the Adelson family. Trump awarded Republican donor Miriam Adelson the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018.
