The popular Duggar family from the TLC reality series, 19 Kids and Counting, has returned to the headlines, albeit for all the wrong reasons. Joseph Duggar, one of the 19 Duggar siblings, was recently arrested in Florida under lewd and lascivious charges involving a minor. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Joseph was arrested in Bay County, Florida, on charges of inappropriate sexual advances towards a minor during a 2020 family vacation, when the victim was allegedly only nine years old.

The news of Joseph’s arrest has spread like wildfire and has put the spotlight on his personal life, especially his wife, Kendra Renee Caldwell, and their four children, who have largely lived in the public eye for Joseph’s reality TV days. Joseph and Kendra’s joint Instagram account has a huge following of over 551K, and after his recent charges, fans are rallying in support of Kendra, warning her to cut ties with the family and move away with her kids.

Joseph Duggar met his wife through church

Joseph Duggar hails from a conservative, church-going family, and it was through their church that he met Kendra. Their bond soon developed into a romantic connection, and they almost immediately became a committed couple. Joseph and Kendra’s relationship grabbed headlines that same year when the reality TV star proposed to Kendra at his sister Joy Anna’s wedding in May 2017.

Kendra soon became a common name among fans, becoming a part of the TLC family’s extended universe. Just months after their engagement, the couple got married in September 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. At that time, Joseph was 23 years old, and Kendra was 19. The wedding was officiated by Kendra’s pastor father, Paul Caldwell.

Kendra Duggar (Renee Caldwell) was born on August 11, 1998, in Springdale, Kansas. She also comes from a relatively big, conservative family and is one of the nine children of Paul and Christina Caldwell. After meeting Joseph, she also became a public image, casting the spotlight on her other siblings, sisters Lauren, Olivia, and Moriah, and brothers Micah, Nathan, Timothy, Jesiah, and Isaiah Caldwell. 

While TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting was wrapped in 2015, Kendra and her family gained the spotlight in its spinoff, Counting On (2015-2020), which also featured their engagement and wedding nuptials. The Duggar family first rose to national prominence through TLC’s hit series, which documented life in a household of 19 children led by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. When the show started in 2007, it was titled 17 Kids and Counting, which eventually became 19 Kids and Counting after the birth of Jordyn-Grace (December 2008) and Josie (December 2009). What did Joseph Duggar do?

Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested on charges of  “lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor”. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office released a statement following his arrest, sharing disturbing details about the reality star’s unlawful sexual activities with a then-nine-year-old child during a family vacation in Florida. The victim, now 14, disclosed multiple incidents during the forensic interview, detailing disturbing and inappropriate behaviour, including inappropriate physical contact in private. According to the victim’s father, he confronted the TLC star about his daughter’s allegations, and he “allegedly admitted his actions to the father and Tontitown detectives.”

Joseph’s arrest comes five years after Josh Duggar was arrested and found guilty of similar, but even more disturbing charges, for which he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Joseph has currently been taken into custody, and his case is reportedly awaiting extradition.

For now, Kendra Renee Caldwell and their children remain largely out of the public conversation, even as online reactions continue to grow.
