Why Brian Daboll chose Robert Saleh and Titans after drawing interest elsewhere

Brian Daboll received interest from across the NFL during this year’s coaching carousel.

He settled on the Titans’ offensive coordinator job, and on Wednesday, he explained why.

“It felt like the right fit with the right people,” Daboll said of why he decided to head to Tennessee during his introductory press conference. “I obviously have a relationship with Robert [Saleh], dating back to the New York days. His vision of what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, Mike [Borgonzi] and the vision he has, and then ultimately Cam [Ward] was a big factor. I have a lot of confidence in this young man … and I look forward to working with him.”

Daboll, who was fired by the Giants in November, interviewed twice for the Raiders head coaching gig before they set their sights on Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.

He also reportedly received interest from the Bills for their head coach position and the Eagles for their OC job.

Daboll, instead, joins forces with Saleh, who is getting his second shot as an NFL head coach since he was fired five games into his fourth season with the Jets after accruing a 20-36 record.

The two overlapped in the Big Apple for parts of three seasons, with Daboll going to the Giants one year after Saleh came to New York.

Daboll quickly led Big Blue to the playoffs and won a wild-card game in 2022.

The Giants went backwards after that postseason run, going 6-11 in 2023 and 3-14 in 2024 before Daboll was fired after a 2-8 start to this season.

Now, both coaches will get a new start together in Nashville.

“I am very happy to be where I’m at, and to be a part of this football team as the offensive coordinator,” Daboll said. “This is the place I want to be. And I look forward to working with this young nucleus, working with Robert, and doing the best job I can do as the offensive coordinator.

“… I think the most important thing is to be where your feet are at, and it’s here in Tennessee. Titan Up, as they say. I am excited to be here. I am looking forward to it.”
