Prashant Kishor and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s meeting comes amid a dismal performance for the Jan Suraj Party and Congress in the Bihar elections.
Prashant Kishor’s relationship with the Gandhi family is not new. After separating from the JDU in 2021, Kishor presented a blueprint for reviving the party to the Congress leadership. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were also present at a key meeting at Sonia Gandhi’s residence in April 2022. At that time, Kishor was ready to join the Congress, but the party offered him to be part of the Empowered Action Group.
However, this is where things went wrong. Kishor refused to accept a limited role and openly stated that Congress needed leadership and structural reforms, not individuals. After this, the two parted ways, and Kishor became a vocal critic of the Congress.
Interestingly, during the Bihar election campaign, Prashant Kishor had dismissed not only Congress but also Rahul Gandhi’s claims of “vote theft” and SIR as election issues. However, his meeting with Priyanka Gandhi after the election results indicated that the doors to political dialogue are not completely closed.
The Indian Express report, citing sources, said that the meeting discussed Bihar politics, the opposition’s strategy, and future prospects. However, it is unclear whether the talks will lead to any formal political cooperation.
Will Congress and Kishor come closer again?
Currently, both the Congress and Prashant Kishor camps are claiming that this was merely a courtesy call. However, in politics, coincidences matter more than signals. After a disastrous failure in Bihar, Prashant Kishor’s meeting with Priyanka Gandhi certainly indicates that he is reconsidering his political options.
The big question now is whether this meeting will be limited to mere discussions or whether the future will mark a new turning point in the relationship between the Congress and Prashant Kishor. For now, speculation is rife in political circles, and everyone is watching the next move.
