The wrestler was released after spending the past 11 months in custody. The news was confirmed by his longtime agent, Mike Fonseca, to ESPN. He walked out of a California prison and reunited with his family. A video shared on X shows Cain Velasquez stepping off a shuttle and hugging his children.

Why was Cain Velasquez in jail?
Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison in March 2025. The former UFC champion was sentenced after pleading no contest to charges related to a shooting incident that took place in February 2022. At the time of the sentencing, Velasquez was credited with 1,283 days served. Almost 11 months later, he has been released on parole. Cain was arrested after he chased a car owned by Harry Goularte and repeatedly shot at the vehicle.
Harry was accompanied by his mother, who runs a day care and his stepfather. Unfortunately, Harry’s stepfather was shot and injured during the 11-mile chase. The wrestler was arrested soon after and later granted USD 1 million bail, placed on house arrest in November 2022. During his sentencing in March 2025, Cain Velasquez told the judge that he agreed with whatever they saw fit to impose. He called his actions reckless and dangerous. Cain also expressed how sorry he was for his recklessness.
