Wild video shows two masked thugs armed with sledgehammers smashing up a UK jeweler’s store as part of a gang’s $130,000 crime spree.
The maniacs were seen smashing up the windows of the shop in video released Tuesday after seven members of the gang were sentenced to a combined 22 years in prison for seven connected smash-and-grab raids last year, London’s Met Police said.
The clip shows two of them smashing the front window of Suttons and Robertsons in London, filling up black bags and then racing away in a silver Jaguar.
One of the masked men, Lee McCready, was out on the UK equivalent of parole at the time for a 2005 murder, police said. Along with Matthew Windrass, 50, he stole the equivalent of almost $79,000 in just the one raid.
The jewelers was just one of seven stores targeted in smash-and-grab robberies across London between May and August last year. They stole the equivalent of just over $130,000.
High-end retailers, cafés, fine art shops and beauty stores were also hit.
“This is a clear message to anyone who thinks they can carry out smash-and-grab raids in London — we will identify you, we will track you down and we will bring you to justice,” warned Scott Mather, the detective chief inspector in charge.
