Pakistan-Taliban war: Amid the recent escalation in border hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a senior minister in the Kabul’s ruling Taliban regime has issued a stern warning to Pakistan Army and its chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, stating that Afghan forces will pursue Pakistan troops all the way to the Indian border if a ‘fatwa’ (religious decree) is issued against the neighboring country’s forces.

Why Taliban minister warned Pakistan Army?

“Once Afghan tribes and the Afghan nations declares you as invaders under a fatwa, then by Allah, you will not find a safe haven till you have reached the Indian border,”  Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Interior, Mohammad Nabi Omari said in a sharply-worded statement on Sunday, amid ongoing peace talks between the two countries in Qatari capital Doha.

Omari also chastised Pakistan’s military regime for the recent airstrikes that killed at least 10 Afghan civilians, including three local cricketers, claiming that the attacker were were carried out “at the instigation of others” Tolo News reported. “These attacks were not of their own desire or decision, but rather carried out at the instigation of others,” Omari claimed.

‘Embarrassed’ by Shehbaz Sharif’s praise for Trump

The Taliban minister also rebuked Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praising US President Donald Trump at the recent Gaza peace summit in Egypt,  “The world recently saw Shehbaz Sharif in Egypt flattering Donald Trump. We were embarrassed that we wish he (Sharif) were not Muslim,” he said, while calling Pakistan a “slave” country that acts at the behest of others.

Omari also rejected Pakistan’s accusations of Afghan Taliban sheltering Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists and other Pakistani militants, asserting “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has not provided refuge to Pakistani Taliban; they are stationed in the tribal areas.”

Addressing the Durand Line border dispute with Pakistan, Omari said Afghanistan has previous lost some areas beyond the Durand Line but will eventually retake them from Pakistan.

Pakistan-Afghanistan ceasefire

Omari’s comments came amid the high-level talks in Doha between Afghanistan and Pakistan’s defence ministers following Islamabad’s airstrikes in Paktika province. The meeting, mediated by Qatar, is aimed at defusing tensions and preventing further escalation. According to the Afghan Foreign Ministry, the talks are being led by Afghanistan’s Defence Minister Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob and Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.

Earlier in the day, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a ceasefire between the two countries, days after Pakistan violated a truce with Kabul by launching fresh airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Paktika province along the Durand Line. Ten Afghan nationals, including three local cricketers, were killed in the attacks, while eight others sustained grievous injuries, drawing widespread outrage.
