Woman dies as scooter and car crash on Bribie Island

A 65-year-old woman has died in a scooter and car crash on Bribie Island.

The woman from Bongaree was riding the motorised Kymco scooter along Sunderland Drive at Bellara when she crashed with a car about 9am on Wednesday.

She suffered life-threatening injuries and was not taken to hospital by paramedics, the Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed.

Police said the 84-year-old Banksia Beach man driving the car, a Kia Sorento, was not injured.

He was assisting police with their enquiries, they said.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash, but had reopened by 4pm.

Anyone who had seen or recorded the crash was urged to contact police.
