Fire Rescue Victoria said a smoke alarm alerted the two teens to a fire in their single-storey home, when they managed to break a window and escape from the building, which was filling with smoke.

“They also made the call to Triple Zero indicating that one other occupant was still in the home,” FRV said.

When firefighters arrived, they entered the home in search for the third person, and found a woman, aged in her 40s, unconscious in a bedroom.

Fire crews and paramedics provided her with medical assistance before she was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.

FRV said the blaze was deemed under control within 30 minutes, but caused “extensive” damage to the bedroom and roof space.

Police confirmed they were investigating the blaze, with the cause yet to be determined.
