Police discovered a woman’s body in a suburban home south-west of Brisbane after being called about a man causing a disturbance on the street.

Officers arrived at Beryl Court in the Ipswich suburb of Bellbird Park at about 11:30 on Thursday, before taking the man into custody.

Roughly two hours later they discovered the body, which a spokesperson said, “may have been inside the house for some time”.

A crime scene was established and police said the man, who is being medically assessed, will assist with the investigation.

Police said they will now await the results of a postmortem to tell how the woman died.
