VIJAYAWADA: The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) is designing projects with a strong focus on developing eco-tourism-centric infrastructure in the capital region, its chairperson and managing director (CMD) D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy informed a visiting World Bank technical team on Tuesday.

The delegation toured key project sites, including the Gravity Canal, Neerukonda, Penumaka and translocation facilities across the Amaravati region. Officials said the 7.8-km-long Gravity Canal, designed to channel surplus floodwaters from Kondaveeti Vagu into the Krishna River, is being developed as a major eco-tourism attraction. Of the total length, 5.9 km has already been completed. The project also includes avenue plantations and recreational activities such as boating, guided by global experts.

The team visited the translocation nursery at Ananthavaram, where large trees obstructing construction are carefully relocated and preserved. The nursery also features a variety of medicinal plants and is being developed as a green recreational space for residents and professionals. The World Bank representatives lauded the initiative as “remarkable.”

At Neerukonda, officials outlined a 440-acre reservoir project with a capacity of 0.4 TMC, of which 30 per cent work has been completed. The project is expected to be operational by March next year. A 190-acre reservoir at Penumaka is also under development to boost tourism.

The team also inspected the Kondaveeti Vagu flood pumping station, where officials explained flood management measures.
