The Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams have revealed their retained player lists ahead of the 2026 mega auction, with several stars from India’s World Cup-winning squad continuing with their franchises. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma are among the top players kept by the five teams.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians and three-time finalists Delhi Capitals have both held on to the maximum five players allowed. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have retained four, Gujarat Giants two, and UP Warriorz only one.

For Mumbai Indians, captain Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a solid group featuring Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur, Hayley Matthews, and young all-rounder G Kamalini. Delhi Capitals have retained Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland, and uncapped player Niki Prasad. The most surprising move was Delhi’s decision not to retain their captain, Meg Lanning.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s key players staying on are Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, and Shreyanka Patil. Gujarat Giants have kept their overseas pair of Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney, while releasing Laura Wolvaardt, who scored consecutive centuries in the ODI World Cup semi-final and final, and Phoebe Litchfield, who also hit a ton against India in the semis.

UP Warriorz, after a difficult 2025 season, have retained only uncapped batter Shweta Sehrawat, giving them the biggest auction purse of Rs 14.5 crore. Their decision to release major players like Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Chenille Henry, and Alana King has come as a surprise.

The retention process also saw several big international names released into the auction pool, including Australia’s Alyssa Healy and New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr.

Each team will have a Rs 15 crore budget for the auction, which will be held in the last week of November in New Delhi. With five-player retentions costing Rs 9.25 crore, both Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals will have Rs 5.75 crore remaining to fill their squads.

This year’s auction will feature the Right-to-Match (RTM) card for the first time, allowing teams to bring back their former players. The WPL 2026 auction is expected to be action-packed, with intense bidding and major team reshuffles as franchises prepare for the upcoming season.
