Wrexham produced a disciplined FA Cup display to edge past Ipswich, with Josh Windass’ first-half goal proving the key moment at the Racecourse Ground.
The hosts started brightly and threatened early through Sam Smith and Windass, both going close inside the opening minutes.
Ipswich responded with a pair of chances for George Hirst, who failed to hit the target with an effort.
Wrexham then began to build pressure through set plays, forcing goalkeeper Alex Palmer into several saves from Windass and Oliver Rathbone.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute. Ryan Longman drove forward down the right and squared into the area where Windass met the pass and guided a low finish into the bottom corner.
After half-time, Ipswich controlled more possession and pushed bodies forward. Chuba Akpom, Elkan Baggott and Sindre Egeli all had efforts blocked, while George Hirst was crowded out from close range.
Wrexham remained dangerous on the counter, with Windass forcing another save from Palmer and Kieffer Moore seeing a shot blocked inside the box.
The visitors increased the pressure late on, committing numbers into the final third and winning several free-kicks and corners. Egeli’s long-range attempt was blocked in stoppage time and a final delivery was claimed by Arthur Okonkwo, allowing Wrexham to run down the clock and pick up a big win against their Championship rivals.
