There’s certainly no guarantee they will become World Champions after failing to do so 16 straight years. And being due — or in this case way overdue — isn’t a real analytic.
Anyway, their Tampa camp exuded a quiet confidence, and for good reason. It might have been nice to fit a new big-time star for pinstripes, but this team, even as boringly constructed as it is, still should have an excellent chance to at least get back to the World Series.
The Yankees write arguably the best lineup in baseball. It’s hard to top the two-time defending champion Dodgers’ Cooperstown-ready batting order, but let’s not forget: The Yankees did lead MLB in runs and a bunch of other offensive categories last year.
