Zach Wilson has been demoted to third-string by the Dolphins.
The former Jets first-round pick will serve as the emergency quarterback Sunday against the Browns, according to NFL Network, with rookie Quinn Ewers elevated to the backup spot behind starter Tua Tagovailoa.
The 26-year-old Wilson has appeared in one game this season, completing five of eight passes for 32 yards in garbage time of a Week 1 blowout loss to the Colts. Ewers, Miami’s seventh-round pick this year out of Texas, has not appeared in an NFL game.

Wilson was the No. 2 overall selection by the Jets out of BYU in 2021, and he made 33 starts from 2021-23 with a 12-21 record and a poor passer rating of 73.2.
He replaced Aaron Rodgers after the veteran suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1 of the 2023 season and started 11 games before getting benched late in the season and replaced by journeyman Tim Boyle.

Wilson was traded with a seventh-round pick to Denver for a sixth-rounder in April 2024, but he did not get into any games for the Broncos last season before signing a one-year deal worth $6 million to be Tagovailoa’s understudy with the Dolphins, who are 1-5 entering Sunday’s game in Cleveland.
