وذكرت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية أن الزلزال وقع على عمق 13.3 كيلومترًا، بينما لم ترد حتى الآن أي تقارير عن وقوع خسائر بشرية أو أضرار مادية.
وتقع ولاية ألاسكا ضمن منطقة “حزام النار” في المحيط الهادي، التي تشهد نشاطًا زلزاليًا وبركانيًا كثيفًا نتيجة التقاء واحتكاك الصفائح التكتونية.
