وتقع جزر فيجي في منطقة تسمى بحزام النار في المحيط الهادئ، التي تتعرض من وقت لآخر للعديد من الزلازل التي قد تكون قوية في بعض الأحيان.
ولم ترد حتى الآن تقارير عن وقوع خسائر بشرية أو أضرار مادية جراء الزلزال.
