The family of a village agriculture assistant (VAA) who died in a recent road accident received ₹1 crore as financial assistance under a group insurance scheme linked to salary accounts.
Y. Mukunda Priya, who was serving as a Village Agriculture Assistant in Nannur village of Orvakal mandal, died a few days ago following a road accident. As her salary was credited through the State Bank of India, she was covered under the bank’s insurance scheme.
District collector Dr A. Siri on Monday handed over the ₹1 crore insurance cheque to the bereaved family and expressed condolences. She assured the family of the district administration’s support during their difficult time.
The collector said permanent state government employees drawing salaries through the State Bank of India are eligible for insurance benefits. While nominees receive ₹1 crore in the event of accidental death, ₹10 lakh is provided in cases of natural death. She also stressed the need to create greater awareness about such insurance schemes among government employees.
