On this week’s Fully Equipped podcast with our new team member McKenzie Steenson, we got to talking about strategy in fittings and how to make sure you get the most out of the experience. Our gear team is about to embark on a 10-day journey testing all of the 2027 product and McKenzie is going to be getting several fittings so here’s the advice I gave her based on my experience last year.
Sometimes it only takes one swing, and that’s okay!
Morrow: “Once you think you like something, you have to then go through a checklist of other important things.”
Steenson: “And this is for everyone listening. What’s reflecting on me is reflecting on everyone else.”
In other words, the perfect golf club does what you want and need it to do. For some golfers, that means repeating the same shot over and over again. For others, it means a club that is versatile; they want to know that in sticky situations where they may not be hitting a stock shot that they can still rely on that gear. It depends on skill level, intention, the type of golf you normally play, and a lot of times, just how much you actually care about your game.

The G440 hybrids appeal to a variety of skill levels, each engineered to deliver different ball- flight characteristics – from the slightly fade-biased 2 hybrid for off-the-tee performance to the draw-inducing 5, 6 and 7 hybrids that help optimize gapping. For many golfers who are getting fit for the first time, or getting into custom clubs for the first time, finding clubs that produce shots that are easy to replicate from swing to swing is likely going to be the goal.
For others, who are seeking solutions to niche problems, there’s going to be a longer checklist of items that need to be checked off before considering that club truly “fit.”
Morrow: “You have to give yourself the grace of, like, literally — if you take one swing and it doesn’t feel like something you want to continue to swing, be done with it.”
Steenson: “That has to be communicated.”
Morrow: “The best thing you can do for your fittings is to say no I don’t like that, and let them make a change. But you also have to say, ‘I don’t like that because of this.’”
Finding the right place where you’re comfortable saying no is crucial! Book a fitting with your local True Spec Golf and start building that relationship.
